Orio Station, Railway station in Yahatanishi-ku, Kitakyushu, Japan
Orio Station is a railway station in Yahatanishi ward, Kitakyushu, serving trains on the Kagoshima Main Line and Chikuhō Main Line. The platforms are arranged with three island layouts and one side platform to handle traffic in several directions.
The railway opened on February 28, 1891, operated by Kyushu Railway before becoming part of the national network in 1907. After railway restructuring in Japan, operations passed to JR Kyushu in 1987.
The station's location near Kyushu Kyoritsu University and Kyushu Women's University makes it central to student life and educational activities in the region.
Both exits have ticket counters, with the east side leading directly to a bus terminal for local routes. The west exit offers connections with buses heading to the airport.
In 1895, this became the first elevated railway in Japan with tracks raised above street level. The design remained in place for over a century until renovations in March 2019 changed the structure.
