Tsukiji Hongan-ji, Buddhist temple in Tsukiji, Tokyo, Japan
The temple exhibits an Indo-Buddhist architectural design with marble carvings, concrete construction, and a grand copper dome reaching 38 meters in height.
Founded in 1617 in Yokoyama-cho district, the temple relocated to its current location in Tsukiji after the Great Fire of Meireki destroyed the original structure.
The temple holds daily services, annual celebrations, and acts as a ceremonial center for both Buddhist followers and the local Japanese community.
The temple complex includes a columbarium, memorial halls, information center, and facilities for religious ceremonies, open from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.
Architect Ito Chuta incorporated elements from South Asian temple architecture into this Japanese Buddhist structure, creating an exceptional fusion of design styles.
