Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station, Railway station in Tama, Japan
Seiseki-Sakuragaoka is an elevated railway station on the Keio Line in Tama, featuring two side platforms that provide metropolitan connections. The facility sits on a raised structure above street level and offers views over the surrounding residential area.
The station began operations in March 1925 as the railway network in the Tokyo metropolitan area expanded during the early Showa period. The subsequent development connected the growing Tama residential area more closely with the city center.
The station became a pilgrimage site for fans of the animation movie whose scenes were set here, and the melody playing on the platforms recalls that film directly. Visitors often pause at specific spots to take photos matching the same angles as in the animation.
The station handles more than 65,000 passengers per day and offers direct access to Shinjuku in approximately 30 minutes via rapid trains. The elevated structure requires ascent via stairs or lifts accessible from street level.
The station design displays Sanrio character figures and motifs on walls and columns due to the nearby Sanrio Puroland theme park. These decorative elements create a contrast with the otherwise functional architecture of the commuter station.
