Haijima Station, Interchange station in Akishima and Fussa, Japan
Haijima Station is a railway junction with five tracks and several platforms in the western part of the Tokyo metropolitan area. The facility connects lines operated by JR East and Seibu Railway under a shared roof.
The station opened in November 1894 as part of the railway expansion west from Tokyo. Seibu Railway began its services here in May 1968, expanding connections for commuters and freight.
The station reflects Japanese railway efficiency through its dual-city location, serving both Akishima and Fussa municipalities within Tokyo Prefecture.
More than 66,000 passengers use the station daily, with peak hours during morning and evening on weekdays. Signs in Japanese and English help navigate between the two railway companies.
A separate freight railway line runs directly from here to Yokota Air Base, transporting fuel and other materials. This military rail connection remains invisible to civilian travelers, as it operates apart from the public platforms.
