Katashina, Mountain village in Tone district, Japan
Katashina extends across 391 square kilometers of land within Gunma Prefecture, featuring elevations ranging from 640 to 2578 meters above sea level.
The village became an official municipality on April 1, 1889, following the establishment of modern administrative systems during the Meiji Restoration period.
The village maintains traditional agricultural practices and seasonal festivals that reflect the customs of rural Japanese mountain communities throughout the year.
Katashina provides access to multiple ski resorts, including Ca et la Ski Resort and Marunuma Plateau, through National Routes 120 and 401.
The population density of 11 persons per square kilometer makes Katashina one of the most sparsely inhabited municipalities in Gunma Prefecture.
