Enzan, dissolved municipality in Yamanashi prefecture, Japan

Enzan is a dissolved municipality in Yamanashi Prefecture set in a hilly region with rice fields and orchards, characterized by small houses and quiet streets. The area contains traditional homes, local shops, and open fields that give the place a calm, rural appearance.

Enzan was founded in 1954 and developed over decades as a center of agriculture and local industry in the region. In 2005, the city merged with neighboring towns Katsunuma and Yamato to form the new city of Kōshū, ending its existence as an independent municipality.

The area developed as a farming community where generations shared customs through local festivals and crafts that remain visible in everyday routines. These traditions create a strong sense of community connection that visitors notice in the small shops, local gatherings, and the way residents maintain their heritage.

The area is best explored on foot or by bicycle, as main points are close together and streets are quiet. Visitors should be flexible and discover the place at their own pace, as there are few marked paths or tourist information centers.

Actor Tomokazu Miura, born in 1952, comes from this area and remains an important part of local identity. Residents share his story with pride, showing the connection between this rural place and the wider world.
