Mount Tomi, Mountain summit in Minamiboso, Japan
Mount Tomi has two separate peaks: the north Konpira Peak at 349 meters and the south Kannon Peak at 342 meters. The two summits are connected by forested slopes with several observation points along the ridge.
The name comes from Ame-no-tomi-no-mikoto, a mythological figure connected to Emperor Jinmu. This legendary origin is linked to the early development of the Boso Peninsula region.
The mountain features in Kyokutei Bakin's Edo period novel Nanso Satomi Hakkenden, where it serves as the residence of Princess Fuse. This literary connection shapes how locals and visitors perceive the place today.
The site is accessible by bus from Iwai Station on the JR East Uchibo Line to the trailhead in Minamiboso. The climb is moderate and takes roughly two to three hours to visit both peaks.
From the summit platform, you can see Mount Fuji and the Miura Peninsula on clear days, which is a surprisingly distant view from a relatively low mountain. This far-reaching visibility comes from the position and lack of higher mountains nearby.
