Echizen Province, Historical province in Hokuriku region, Japan

Located in northern Fukui Prefecture, Echizen Province extends along the Sea of Japan coast and features mountains, rivers, and fertile agricultural lands.

The province emerged from the division of Koshi Province in 701 CE during the Taihō Code reforms, becoming one of three administrative regions in the area.

The region maintains deep connections to traditional Japanese crafts, particularly in the production of Echizen pottery and handmade paper dating from 774 CE.

Modern transport networks connect Echizen to major cities, with train services running through Fukui Prefecture providing access to historical and cultural sites.
