Tomioka Castle, Japanese castle in Amakusa District, Japan.

The castle stands on a peninsula surrounded by sea, connected to mainland Kumamoto Prefecture by a narrow strip of land at coordinates 32.5289°N, 130.032°E.

Terazawa Hirotaka constructed the castle between 1602 and 1605 after receiving the Amakusa area as compensation for his service in the Battle of Sekigahara.

The remaining stone walls, gates, and turrets represent the architectural methods used in Japanese castle construction during the Edo Period.

The castle grounds and visitor center remain open from 9:00 to 16:45, closing on Wednesdays, with free admission and parking for all visitors.

During the winter of 1637, Christian rebels penetrated the Ninomaru compound, but reinforcements successfully defended the castle during the Shimabara Rebellion.
