Shōsōin, Wooden treasure house in Nara Park, Japan
The Shōsō-in building measures 33 meters wide, 9.4 meters deep, and 14 meters high with elevated flooring positioned 2.7 meters above ground level.
The construction of this imperial repository began in 756 when Empress Kōmyō dedicated more than 600 items to the Great Buddha at Tōdai-ji Temple.
The repository contains approximately 9,000 artifacts from the 8th century, including Buddhist objects, furniture, musical instruments, and documents from various Asian cultures.
The treasures previously stored in this azekura-style building now reside in two reinforced concrete structures at the Nara National Museum since 1962.
The northern section of the storehouse remains perpetually sealed, with exclusive access granted solely to members of the Japanese imperial family.
