Otaki

Located 35.8093 degrees north of the equator, Otaki spans across 310 square kilometers in the Kiso Mountains of southwest Nagano Prefecture.

The village establishment occurred on April 1, 1889, during the Meiji period reforms that restructured Japan's municipal system and local governance.

The community maintains traditional Japanese rural practices through seasonal festivals, agricultural ceremonies, and regional cooking methods using local mountain ingredients.

Transportation access remains limited as the village lacks direct railway connections and national highways, requiring careful planning for visitors and residents.

The surrounding area contains 95 percent forested land, with 86 percent designated as national forest, making it one of the most densely wooded regions.
