Kiso Observatory, Astronomical research facility on Mount Ontake, Japan

The Kiso Observatory contains a 105-centimeter Schmidt telescope positioned at an elevation of 1,132 meters in Nagano Prefecture, enabling detailed astronomical observations.

The facility opened in 1974 as a branch of Tokyo Astronomical Observatory and transformed into a university observatory under the Institute of Astronomy in 1988.

The observatory maintains connections with astronomers worldwide by providing access to research facilities and organizing annual Schmidt symposiums for scientific exchange.

The facility operates an automated queue system for efficient monitoring, allowing researchers to conduct long-term observations based on weather conditions.

Since 2019, the observatory utilizes the Tomo-e Gozen camera system, covering 20 square degrees and capturing images at intervals under one second.
