Kiso Observatory

Kiso Observatory is an astronomical research facility located on a mountain in Nagano Prefecture that houses a large telescope for detailed sky observations. The complex operates with modern instruments and serves researchers from Tokyo University.

The facility was founded in 1974 as a branch of a Tokyo research organization and later became affiliated with a university. This change brought new structures and expanded research capabilities.

The observatory maintains connections with astronomers worldwide by providing access to research facilities and organizing annual Schmidt symposiums for scientific exchange.

Since 2019, the facility uses an advanced camera system that captures large sections of the sky and enables very fast image capture. This technology allows it to record rapid changes and rare events in the sky.
