Kilifi Bridge, Transport bridge in Kilifi, Kenya
Kilifi Bridge is a 420-meter concrete structure spanning Kilifi Creek with three sections, the central one carrying two traffic lanes and pedestrian walkways. The span connects the B6 Road between Mombasa and Malindi, allowing vehicles and people to cross the creek.
Built in 1991 under President Daniel Arap Moi's administration, it replaced the ferry service that previously connected both sides of Kilifi Creek. Its completion created a faster, direct road connection that improved travel along the coast.
The bridge is a social meeting place where residents stop to watch traditional dhow sailboats gliding through the water below. You can see fishermen at work and notice the daily rhythm of life on the creek.
Located roughly 56 kilometers from Mombasa, the bridge is best reached by car as it is a main coastal highway route. Both sides have pedestrian paths, and the crossing takes only a few minutes.
From the bridge's elevated position, you can see mangrove forests and watch activities at the nearby Kilifi Boatyard, where boats are built and repaired. This view of the working boatyard and natural surroundings often surprises visitors.
