Kampong Thom Province

Kampong Thom Province is located in central Cambodia and stretches across a large area featuring multiple rivers, lakes, forests, and mountains. The province comprises eight administrative districts and offers a mix of natural landscapes and populated areas.

The province was established in 1907 during French colonial rule and received its current name, having previously been called Kampong Pos Thom. It developed into an important administrative hub in the region.

The province is home to hundreds of temples dating back to the Khmer Empire era, with their architecture reflecting the artistic traditions of the region. Local communities maintain these sites as central places for daily life and spiritual practice.

The province sits along National Highway 6 between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, making travel between locations straightforward by various means of transport. Visitors should plan to drive between different areas to explore the various districts.

The province is one of the largest administrative regions in the country and plays a significant role in cashew nut and fish production. These industries shape the landscape and economy of the area noticeably.
