The Royal Residence

The Royal Residence is an architectural structure in Siem Reap featuring traditional Khmer design with copper statues positioned around the grounds and adjacent royal gardens. The main building is complemented by carefully landscaped exterior areas.

The residence was built in 1904 and played a central role during independence negotiations when King Norodom Sihanouk organized meetings with French officials. This site was thus key to reshaping Cambodia's political standing.

The building displays classical Khmer design elements with multi-tiered roofs and ornate decorations. These architectural details reflect the royal significance of the place.

The interior is not accessible to visitors, but you can view the exterior architecture and public gardens during daylight hours. It helps to check ahead about when the gardens are open to the public.

Twelve copper statues of Khmer Empire generals were installed around the grounds in 2022, displaying important historical military figures. These artworks were added later and are today among the most striking features of the site.
