War Museum Cambodia, Military history museum in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
War Museum Cambodia is an open-air museum in Siem Reap that displays military equipment gathered from several countries over many decades. Tanks, artillery pieces, fighter jets, and other weapons are arranged across an outdoor grounds as well as inside covered galleries.
The museum was founded in 2001 on land that had previously been mined, as part of an effort to turn a hazardous site into a place of remembrance. The collection focuses on the conflicts that shaped Cambodia's recent past and the wider Southeast Asian region.
Former soldiers and landmine survivors work as guides throughout the museum, sharing their personal stories of war and recovery. Their presence brings the history to life in a way that goes beyond what any object in a display case could communicate alone.
The museum is located in Siem Reap and is easy to reach by tuk-tuk or car, with parking available on site. Most of the collection is outdoors, so wear sturdy footwear as the ground can be uneven in places.
Visitors are allowed to touch and climb onto many of the displayed machines, including tanks and fighter jets. This hands-on access is rare in a museum setting and turns the visit into something more physical than simply looking at objects behind barriers.
