Angkor

The temples of Angkor extend across 162 hectares, featuring large sandstone structures with numerous towers, galleries, and detailed stone carvings throughout the site.

The Khmer Empire established Angkor as its capital from the 9th to 15th centuries, constructing temples that transformed from Hindu to Buddhist worship over generations.

The walls contain 1,796 carved figures of devatas and extensive bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu epics including the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The archaeological park requires visitors to purchase entry passes and maintain appropriate clothing standards when entering the religious buildings and sacred areas.

The temple stones, weighing up to 1.5 tons each, were transported from Mount Kulen quarry 40 kilometers away using water channels and specialized lifting techniques.
