Central Cardamom Mountains National Park

The national park spans 4,500 square kilometers of dense tropical forest, featuring diverse ecosystems from lowland rainforests to elevated mountain slopes and river systems.

The mountains provided refuge for Khmer Rouge fighters after their defeat, with the area remaining isolated until the construction of major roads in 2002.

The Indigenous Chhong and Por communities maintain traditional practices within the mountains, incorporating sustainable forest management into their daily activities.

Visitors need to arrange transportation from Phnom Penh and secure local guides, as the park infrastructure remains limited with few established facilities.

The park contains jar burial sites from the 15th to 17th centuries, where ceramic vessels and wooden coffins indicate historical burial practices.
