Nowon District, Administrative district in northeastern Seoul, South Korea
Nowon is an administrative district in northeastern Seoul with residential complexes spread throughout its area. The landscape is bounded by Suraksan and Bukhansan mountains, which frame the district's northern edge.
The district was created in 1988 when it separated from Dobong-gu, initially comprising six administrative neighborhoods. A year later, two areas were returned to Dobong District, establishing the district's current boundaries.
The district is shaped by its many educational institutions, particularly Sahmyook University and Seoul National University of Science and Technology, which define its character. These universities contribute to a student-oriented environment visible in the local shops, cafés, and community spaces.
The district connects to central Seoul through three subway lines and regional railway services. This makes it easy to reach other parts of the city from here.
The Jungnangcheon Stream runs through the western section and provides dedicated paths for running, skating, and cycling. These waterside routes are popular daily destinations for recreation and outdoor activities.
