Jinhae

Jinhae is a naval district in Changwon that sprawls across hills and shorelines along Jinhae Bay. Geoje Island and Goseong Peninsula shelter the waters and define the geography of this port region.

The district grew from a Japanese naval base established during the Russo-Japanese War around 1905 into a major center for South Korean maritime operations. This transformation remains central to its identity as a port district.

The Gunhangje Festival celebrates Admiral Yi Sun-sin each spring with military parades and street performances throughout the district. Local ceremonies honor naval heritage during the cherry blossom season when the area fills with visitors.

The district connects well to other major South Korean cities through established bus networks and Korean National Railroad services. Getting around and reaching the area from nearby cities is straightforward for most travelers.

Yeojwacheon Stream and Gyeonghwa train station are lined with cherry trees that put on impressive spring blooms each year. These locations draw massive crowds during the flowering period, creating one of the region's largest gathering spots.
