Busan Modern History Museum, Modern history museum in Jung-gu district, Busan, South Korea.
The Busan Modern History Museum is a museum in Jung-gu district that traces the city's development from the late 19th century through the 20th century. It presents artifacts, photographs, and documents across two main exhibition halls, each focusing on different aspects of the region's transformation.
The building was constructed in 1929 as the headquarters of the Oriental Development Company during Japanese occupation. It later served as the United States Information Service facility until 2003, when it was transformed into this museum.
The exhibition halls tell local stories through period-specific recreations, including a model of the historic Daecheong-dong street that once formed the heart of the city. You can see how the neighborhood was laid out and how daily life unfolded in different eras.
The museum is located on Daecheong-ro street in Jung-gu and is easy to reach. Plan for about two to three hours to fully explore both exhibition halls at a comfortable pace.
The building showcases early reinforced concrete construction, a technique that was uncommon at the time. It stands as one of the few surviving structures of this style in South Korea and demonstrates the modern building methods that were introduced to the city.
