Jikjisa, Buddhist temple on Mount Cheondeungsan in Gimcheon, South Korea

Jikjisa is a Buddhist temple situated on Mount Cheondeungsan with traditional buildings arranged across multiple levels climbing the slope. The main hall Daeungjeon occupies a central position and features curved rooflines that shelter a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha inside.

The temple was established in 418 and underwent two major reconstructions during the Silla period, first in 645 under Master Jajang Yulsa and again in 930. These rebuilding efforts shaped its present form.

The temple serves as the main seat of the Jogye Order's eighth district and shapes Buddhist practice across the region today. Visitors observe how monks and pilgrims move through the grounds and honor sacred spaces in their daily routines.

The Templestay program allows visitors to spend one or more nights on site and experience monastic routines directly. Regular bus connections link the site to larger cities including Daegu.

A flat stone beside the Heavenly Kings' Gate marks where Master Sinmuk discovered a sleeping boy who later became Great Master Yujeong, an influential military figure. This episode ties the temple to a memorable life story from the past.
