Sejong National Arboretum, National arboretum in Yeongi-myeon, South Korea.
Sejong National Arboretum is a large botanical garden divided into 24 thematic sections that showcase plants from across many different environments and climate zones. The collection spans numerous plant species organized by theme and season, allowing visitors to see how different types of vegetation are arranged and displayed.
The arboretum opened in 2020 following eight years of planning and construction, marking the third national botanical garden project completed in South Korea. This project was part of a broader effort to expand botanical education and preservation across the country.
The Traditional Korean Garden area reflects Joseon Dynasty design principles through its layout and architectural elements, allowing visitors to experience how classical gardens shaped cultural spaces. The section shows how historical aesthetics continue to influence the way people think about garden design and natural spaces today.
The site is easy to navigate on foot and clearly marked, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and mobility levels. Different garden sections peak during different seasons, so planning a visit around your favorite plants or flowers will enhance your experience.
The greenhouse complex houses one of the country's largest greenhouse structures, which contains an exceptionally tall Indonesian tree specimen rarely seen outside tropical regions. This rare display demonstrates the arboretum's efforts to preserve plants from climates very different from Korea's.
