Jongno Tower, Office skyscraper in Jongno district, South Korea
Jongno Tower is a triangular office skyscraper with a glass and steel facade rising 33 stories and topped by an oval structure. Below the crown sit seven open floors that house commercial tenants and retail spaces.
Samsung Securities commissioned architect Rafael Viñoly to design this commercial structure, which opened in 1999. The project emerged as part of the financial district expansion in Jongno during that era.
The tower faces the Bo-shin-gahk belfry, where a bronze bell rings 33 times each New Year's Eve following Buddhist custom. Visitors can observe this tradition from several spots nearby.
The building connects directly to Jonggak Station on Seoul Metro Line 1 through its basement level with a shopping arcade. This makes access convenient whether arriving by train or on foot from surrounding streets.
The building contains a large void space between the 23rd and 30th floors, creating a distinctive gap in its vertical form. This deliberate opening was an intentional feature of the original design.
