Songdo First World, Residential tower in Songdo, South Korea.
Songdo First World is a residential tower complex in the Songdo International Business District, South Korea, divided into four court communities. Each court has its own entry points and shared outdoor spaces, giving the overall structure a layout closer to a cluster of connected buildings than a single block.
The complex was built as part of the early development of the Songdo International Business District, a planned city constructed on land reclaimed from the sea near Incheon. It stands as one of the first large residential projects completed in this new district.
Songdo First World sits in a neighborhood built entirely from scratch, which gives daily life there a different feel from older Korean residential areas. Residents share outdoor courtyards within each community unit, a layout that encourages neighbors to cross paths in a way that older apartment blocks rarely allow.
The complex is in central Songdo, which is connected to Incheon and Seoul by subway and bus. Because the building is divided into four separate court communities each with its own entrances, it helps to look for signage when moving between sections.
The facade was deliberately designed with broken surface lines and large openings to reduce the visual weight of the tower when seen from street level. This makes the building read as several lighter volumes rather than one solid mass.
