Jajangmyeon Museum, Food museum in Jung District, South Korea
The Jajangmyeon Museum is a food museum in Jung District dedicated to black soybean noodles with six exhibition halls filled with visual history and artifacts. These spaces document ingredients, preparation techniques, and the evolution of this noodle dish through objects and photographs.
The museum opened in 2012 at the site of the former Gonghwachun restaurant, which was established between 1905 and 1908 by a Chinese immigrant from Shandong province. This location connects the space to the early origins of the dish in Korea and its role in the country's food story.
The dish transformed from a Chinese specialty into a staple of Korean dining through gradual adaptation and local innovation over many decades. Today visitors see how deeply this noodle dish is woven into Korean food traditions and daily life.
The museum is located near Incheon Station on the subway line and offers free admission for all visitors. Interactive displays and cooking demonstrations happen regularly throughout the year, giving you hands-on insight into how this noodle dish is made.
Inside the museum you can walk through a recreated 1960s kitchen and a 1930s dining room that show how this noodle dish was prepared and served in earlier times. These spaces let visitors experience how the kitchen and dining habits actually worked back then.
