World Cup Bridge, River bridge in Yangpyeong-dong, South Korea
The World Cup Bridge spans the Han River for about 1,100 meters, connecting Yangpyeong-dong with Sangam-dong in Seoul. The structure has multiple lanes for vehicles, separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and direct links to major expressways.
Construction of this bridge started in 2010 and finished in late 2023. The project faced several schedule changes before the new crossing over the Han River opened for traffic.
The bridge gained additional recognition when the music group BTS performed their song 'Butter' on its structure for The Tonight Show in July 2021.
Pedestrians and cyclists can use the dedicated paths to safely cross the bridge. The structure connects well with expressways and makes travel between different parts of Seoul easier.
The bridge is lit at night with LED systems that create colored displays, turning the structure into a visual feature of Seoul's nighttime. This lighting art changes the bridge's appearance depending on the season and special occasions.
