Ekibastuz GRES-2 Power Station, Coal-fired power station in Pavlodar Region, Kazakhstan

Ekibastuz GRES-2 is a coal-fired power station in Pavlodar Region that generates electricity through two main units. The facility receives coal directly from neighboring mining operations and distributes power across multiple regions of Kazakhstan.

Construction started in the late 1980s with the first unit beginning operations in 1990 and the second unit completed in 1993. The plant was built as part of efforts to expand power generation across the region during that period.

The power station employs many residents from surrounding communities and shapes the local economy. Work at the facility ties together families and neighborhoods across the region.

The facility is located in an industrial zone and is best reached via paved access roads that serve the site. Keep in mind this is an active industrial operation, so access may be restricted and advance permission might be needed.

The station uses specialized steam turbines from Soviet-era manufacturing that continue to operate effectively. These machines represent an important piece of industrial technology from decades past that still powers the region today.
