Adam's Bridge Marine National Park, Marine national park in Northern Province, Sri Lanka
Adam's Bridge Marine National Park is a protected marine area that extends across shallow sandbars and forms a natural land spit between two islands. The reserve covers a large water area with varying depths across the seafloor.
The area was protected in 2015 after a comprehensive assessment of the region's environmental conditions was completed. This designation was an important step in safeguarding the ecosystem at this location.
The formation takes its name from a figure in the Ramayana and holds spiritual significance for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visiting the site. Today, people come here to experience this mythological connection between two lands.
Visitors reach the park via the coastal road from Mannar, which passes several viewpoints along the way. It is best to come during drier months to have the best conditions for wildlife spotting.
The waters here are home to rare dugongs and various seabird species, including terns that nest in the area. This marine biodiversity makes the place an important refuge for endangered species.
