Diyatha Uyana, Leisure park in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka
Diyatha Uyana is a park stretching along the Diyawanna Oya riverbank with illuminated pathways, green spaces, and a floating restaurant beside the Waters Edge Hotel. The grounds feature open areas for walking, sitting, and enjoying views of the water.
The park was built on marshy land and opened in September 2014 through joint efforts of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Civil Security Department. Creating this space required specialized techniques to make the wet ground usable for public access.
Das Grün zieht an Wochenenden Blumen- und Pflanzenmärkte an, auf denen sich lokale Gärtner, Verkäufer und Naturfreunde in einem gemeinsamen Raum treffen und austauschen.
The park offers boat rides during daylight hours and has designated parking areas with direct access from the Polduwa junction near the Parliament Complex. Wear sturdy footwear since the walkways can become slippery after rain.
The floating restaurant was constructed by naval experts and combines maritime engineering with waterside dining. This structure shows how military expertise was repurposed for leisure use.
