Noreikiškės Manor
Noreikiškės Manor is a historic stone and brick building near Kaunas with traditional proportions and sloping roofs. The estate grounds still show traces of its former gardens and agricultural land that once surrounded the main residence.
The manor originated in the 19th century as a residence for noble families and experienced multiple ownership changes over time. During the Soviet period from 1961 to 1968, it functioned as an administrative center for the region.
The manor served as a social hub for the local community and remains part of their sense of belonging to this place. Stories about gatherings and daily life here are still shared among residents today.
The site is located about 7 kilometers west of Kaunas in a quiet rural area that is easy to reach. Since the manor is not a finished museum, visitors should prepare by reading about the building beforehand to appreciate what they see.
The manor witnessed worker strikes in 1905 and 1906 that reveal how social tensions shaped rural Lithuania. These events show that even remote estates were caught up in larger historical movements.
