Dar Si Said Museum, National Museum of Weaving and Carpets in Medina, Marrakesh, Morocco.

Dar Si Said Museum is housed in a nineteenth-century palace with multiple courtyards and decorated rooms spread across two floors. The collection displays traditional Moroccan crafts and antiques from various regions.

The palace was originally built as the residence of Si Said, brother of Grand Vizier Bou Ahmed. It became a public museum in 1932.

The museum displays regional carpet styles and traditional textiles from various Moroccan areas. You can see Berber jewelry, ceramics, and musical instruments that reflect the craftsmanship of local communities.

The museum is located between Jemaa el Fna and Bahia Palace and opens from 9 AM to 4:45 PM Wednesday through Monday. A visit usually takes one to two hours depending on your interest in the displays.

The museum contains an ancient Andalusian fountain basin with intricate arabesque motifs and eagle carvings, a rare example of Islamic decorative work. This piece shows the cultural connections between Al-Andalus and Morocco.

Photo locations in Morocco

Morocco offers a wide range of subjects for photographers. Cities like Marrakech and Casablanca have mosques, palaces, and gardens where colors, geometric patterns, and craft skills come together. You can photograph the 210-meter minaret of the Hassan II Mosque facing the ocean, the blue walls of Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains, or the courtyards and mosaics of the Bahia Palace. The land of Morocco has many different landscapes, from the dunes of the Sahara to the peaks of the Atlas. The Todra Gorges show limestone cliffs that narrow in some places, while the Ouzoud waterfalls fall in three steps into a wooded valley. The medinas reveal the busy markets and narrow streets where artisans work. On the coast, beaches and forts add more scenes to explore.
