Bar is a port town on the Adriatic coast in Bar Municipality, Montenegro. The shoreline stretches for more than forty kilometers, backed by mountains and olive groves that reach down to the water.
The settlement began in the sixth century as a Roman fortress called Antipargal. Between 1405 and 1412, it grew into a Venetian city-state with its own currency.
