Tomb of Genghis Khan, Hidden tomb in Khentii Mountains, Mongolia
The burial site encompasses a restricted area of 93 square miles near Burkhan Khaldun Mountain in northern Mongolia's remote wilderness.
Following his death in 1227, soldiers transported Genghis Khan's body through Mongolia, eliminating witnesses to maintain the location's secrecy.
Modern Mongolians maintain a strong conviction that the tomb's location should stay undiscovered to preserve their national heritage.
Current archaeological research focuses on the Khentii Mountains region, where satellite imagery has identified 55 potential archaeological sites.
A river was reportedly redirected over the burial location while horses stampeded across the ground to eliminate any visible traces.
