Azure Window, Natural arch in Malta

Azure Window was a limestone arch in Dwejra Bay on the island of Gozo, rising about 28 meters (92 feet) from the sea. The arch connected a cliff to a freestanding rock, forming a natural bridge over the turquoise water.

The formation was created by the collapse of two limestone sea caves that had been eroded by seawater over centuries. In March 2017, the arch collapsed into the sea during a storm and disappeared completely.

The formation gained worldwide recognition after appearing in television series and films from different countries. Divers and snorkelers continue to visit the bay to explore the underwater landscape that developed after its collapse.

The area around the former formation is accessible by coastal paths, and the bay itself remains open to swimmers and divers. The underwater landscape offers clear visibility and a variety of marine life throughout the year.

Locals sometimes called the arch the Dwejma Window after the bay where it stood. Geologists had warned before the collapse that erosion was making the arch increasingly fragile.
