St Dimitri Chapel, Għarb, Rural chapel in Għarb, Malta
The chapel stands as a rectangular stone structure featuring white walls, a central entrance, and a bell tower overlooking the Maltese countryside.
Constructed in 1736 by Reverend Mario Vella, this chapel replaced an earlier 15th-century structure mentioned in Pietro Dusina's inquisitorial report of 1575.
The main altar displays a painting from 1810 depicting Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki as a soldier on horseback, making it the only Maltese church dedicated to this Greek saint.
Visitors can access the chapel through prior arrangement, and proper dress code applies when entering this religious building during opening hours.
Local fishermen report sightings of an ancient oil lamp glowing beneath the sea, linked to tales of the chapel falling intact into the water during an earthquake.
