Basilica of the Visitation, Għarb, Minor basilica in Għarb, Malta.
The Basilica of the Visitation is a baroque church located in Għarb in western Gozo with a facade inspired by Roman church architecture. The interior displays religious decorations and furnishings typical of a church with basilica status.
Construction started at the end of the 17th century and finished in the early decades of the 18th century, replacing an earlier place of worship. Its elevation to basilica status through papal decree marked a change in its rank within the church hierarchy.
The basilica received ceremonial items including the Umbraculum and Tintinnabulum upon its elevation to minor basilica status by Pope Paul VI.
The building is open for visitors during worship services and religious celebrations, offering insight into active church practice. The best time for a visit is outside of main services when you can examine the architecture and furnishings without disrupting worship.
The basilica displays the Pope's coat of arms above its main entrance, marking its designation as the second parish established outside Victoria.
