Kurumba Maldives, resort in Maldives
Kurumba Maldives is a hotel on a private island in Kaafu Atoll in the Maldives. The property has 180 rooms and villas with varying layouts, ranging from simple accommodations to luxury villas with private pools, plus eight restaurants, three bars, two pools, a spa, and dive centers.
The resort was the first tourism hotel in the Maldives when it opened in 1972, starting with simple rooms without air conditioning or fresh water. The property was enlarged multiple times and underwent major renovation in 2004, but retained its welcoming character and remains a key part of Maldivian tourism history.
The name Kurumba comes from the local language, and the island serves as a meeting place for visitors from around the world. The resort reflects a blend of traditional Maldivian hospitality and modern comfort, with staff greeting guests personally and attending to their needs.
The resort is only about 10 minutes by speedboat from Malé International Airport, making it very easy to reach. The island is small enough to explore on foot or via internal paths, making navigation and movement between restaurants, pools, and villas convenient.
The resort pioneered tourism development in the Maldives and has attracted returning visitors across generations who appreciate it for its airport proximity and welcoming character. Many guests return over the years, making it a place with a unique continuity of visitors.
