Our Lady of Presentation Church features concrete architecture with a prominent grotto and wooden statue of the Virgin Mary at its entrance.
The church site, formerly known as Villapatty, contained a Stonehenge structure called Sumaithangai where merchants rested during journeys between Kottar and Trivandrum.
The local community renamed the area to Mathapuram after the installation of a wooden statue of Our Lady in 1949, referring to her as Kanikkai Madha.
The current church building, inaugurated in August 2017, replaced an older structure that no longer accommodated the growing number of parishioners.
A cross at the church bears the inscription INRI, suggesting potential connections to the time of Saint Thomas the Apostle in India.
