Dhangethi, Tropical island in Alif Dhaal Atoll, Maldives
Dhangethi is an island in Alif Dhaal Atoll with white sandy beaches surrounded by shallow waters of the Indian Ocean. The shoreline offers access to coral reefs nearby, making it popular for water activities like snorkeling and diving.
The island was initially settled by fishing communities drawn to the rich marine resources of the region. Over time, the settlement grew and developed into a small organized community with basic services and schools.
Five non-governmental organizations operate on the island, including Zuvaanunge Club and Jammiyathul Anwar, supporting local development and social initiatives.
Visitors can reach the island by speedboat or ferry from the capital, with the journey taking several hours. Since shops and services on the island are limited, it helps to bring supplies you may need in advance.
The Dhangethi School offers education until O-Level and introduced a combined stream in 2012 to support students interested in scientific and medical fields.
