Deukhuri, Valley in Dang District, Nepal
Deukhuri Valley is a broad plain stretching through southern Nepal and forms part of the Inner Terai region. The West Rapti River flows through this area and creates natural drainage between the mountain ranges to the north and south.
The valley remained sparsely settled until the mid-20th century and only became accessible for larger settlement after disease control efforts. This change brought people to the region and shaped the current population structure.
The Tharu people cultivate the land here and shape daily life in the region through their farming practices. The Kham Magar communities use these areas for seasonal grazing and contribute to a diverse local population.
The Mahendra Highway connects the valley to the rest of Nepal and allows relatively easy access from different directions. Visitors should keep in mind that the region can be difficult to reach during the rainy season.
The valley has been identified as a potential site for a new provincial capital, bringing investment and development plans to the region. This future perspective makes it a place undergoing rapid change.
