Djebel Samhan

Rising to 1,812 meters, Jebel Samhan extends across 4,500 square kilometers of limestone cliffs, deep valleys, and narrow mountain passes in southern Oman.

The mountains of Jebel Samhan formed natural barriers that contributed to the development of distinct cultural identities between northern and southern Oman through centuries.

The Jibbali people maintain traditional practices in Jebel Samhan, speaking their own language and continuing pastoral activities with camels, goats, and cattle.

Visitors need permits and four-wheel-drive vehicles to access the reserve, where camping is permitted in designated areas along the mountain edges.

The reserve provides critical habitat for twenty Arabian leopards, representing ten percent of the remaining wild population of this endangered species.
