Qalhat LNG Terminal, LNG export terminal in Ash Sharqiyah Region, Oman
Qalhat LNG Terminal is an export facility for liquefied natural gas and gas liquids with two loading jetties located about 75 nautical miles southeast of Muscat. The facility accommodates vessels up to 310 meters long and processes approximately 123 ships annually for distribution worldwide.
The facility began operations in 2000 following a royal decree issued in 1996 that initiated construction of the site. It connects to regional gas fields through an extensive pipeline network extending across the region.
The terminal reflects global partnership, with stakeholders from multiple countries involved in operating and managing the facility. This international presence shapes how the site functions as a shared energy resource.
The facility is designed to accommodate large vessels with specific draft requirements and operates throughout the year. Visiting is best during the cooler months when weather conditions are more favorable for maritime activities.
The facility completed a capacity expansion in 2023 that increased annual production by 1 million tons through technological improvements. This upgrade enhanced operational efficiency without requiring major new construction work.
