Santa Ana

Santa Ana is a municipality in Cagayan Province and spans multiple barangays, including Palaui Island. It marks the northeasternmost point of Luzon and hosts the Cagayan Special Economic Zone.

The town was established in 1949 through executive order and separated from Gonzaga's territory. This creation marked a turning point in the region's administrative structure.

The annual Viray Festival honors the traditional wooden boats that supported generations of fishermen, celebrated through parades and community events. This tradition reflects how maritime craftsmanship remains woven into the town's identity.

The area is sprawling and takes several hours to explore fully, especially if visiting the remote Palaui Island. Having a vehicle or using local transport options helps when traveling between different barangays.

The name comes not from Saint Anne but from an acronym of three provincial officials' names. This unusual naming practice reflects an administrative approach that surprises many visitors today.
