Tuguegarao Cathedral

Tuguegarao Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in the city of Tuguegarao featuring baroque architecture with alternating smooth and twisted pilasters and semicircular arch windows. A five-story quadrilateral bell tower rises above the main structure and creates a striking focal point in the cityscape.

Dominican friars initiated construction of the current cathedral building in 1761 and completed the structure in 1768 under the supervision of Antonio Lobato. This construction followed earlier religious structures at the site, documenting the long Christian presence in the region.

The cathedral serves as the main religious center of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao and shapes the spiritual life of the community. Visitors can observe how local people gather here for daily masses and how the space hosts major religious celebrations throughout the year.

The building is located on Rizal Street in central Tuguegarao and is easily reached on foot or by vehicle. The facade shows a distinctive brick construction with deeply recessed circular window openings and molded symbols integrated into the structure. These design elements make the building instantly recognizable and set it apart from other baroque churches in the region.
