Roxas, municipality of the Philippines in the province of Isabela
Roxas is a municipality in Isabela province on Luzon island, defined by flat agricultural landscapes and orderly town layout. It comprises 26 barangays spread across approximately 18,400 hectares with around 66,000 residents, where rice, corn, and vegetable farming form the economic foundation and daily rhythm of the community.
Roxas started as Barrio Vira and was originally part of Gamu before being established as a town in 1948 by President Elpidio Quirino and named in honor of Manuel Roxas. Development followed years of building after plans from the 1930s were interrupted by World War II.
The name Roxas honors former President Manuel Roxas and reflects how the town values its historical roots. Daily life here centers on agriculture and strong community bonds that shape how people gather and work together. You see this most clearly at the marketplace and public spaces where traditions guide social interactions.
The town is about 40 kilometers from Ilagan and easily reached by local buses and vehicles, with connections to larger cities like Tuguegarao and Cauayan. Keep in mind that street names are not always clearly marked, so asking locals or using landmarks like the marketplace and church helps with navigation.
Roxas stands out as one of the few towns in Isabela with modern retail presence, including the only Puregold supermarket outside provincial city centers and a Jollibee franchise. This distinguishes it from many rural areas in the region and shows its rapid development into a regional trade hub.
