Gujrat District

The Gujrat Division extends between the Chenab and Jhelum rivers, covering 3,192 square kilometers in northern Punjab with a population of 3,219,375 residents.

The region belonged to King Porus's kingdom before Alexander's arrival in 326 BC, later falling under the control of Indo-Greek, Indo-Scythian, and Mauryan empires.

The Ram Pyari Mahal, built in the early 20th century, incorporates Greek and Roman architectural elements and stands near Shoni Bazaar, a center of pottery crafts.

The district contains four administrative subdivisions - Gujrat, Kharian, Sarai Alamgir, and Jalalpur Jattan - with 1,475 government schools serving the population.

The district maintains a high literacy rate of 81.37 percent, with Punjabi spoken by 93.47 percent of residents, while Islam represents 98.92 percent of religious affiliations.
