Throchi Fort

Throchi Fort is a fortification located on a hilltop three kilometers east of Gulpur village. The structure rises above the landscape and overlooks the surrounding terrain of Kotli district in Azad Kashmir.

The fort was built between 1425 and 1460 under the rule of chieftain Jasrat. It served to protect local people and control trading routes that crossed through the region.

The fort displays Indo-Islamic and Mughal building styles in its structures. Local stories suggest the name comes from a figure who held importance in the region.

The fort is managed by the Pakistan Army and visitors must obtain proper permission before entering. It is best to check access guidelines in advance and follow all instructions given by site managers.

The fort preserves its original defensive structures while serving as an active military installation today. This dual purpose creates a rare example where historical architecture and modern military operations coexist within the same walls.
