Bahawalpur Zoo, Zoo in Bahawalpur District, Pakistan
Bahawalpur Zoo is a 25-acre facility that houses roughly 870 animals including birds, mammals, and various water creatures in different enclosures and pools. The grounds also feature an aquarium and a zoological museum alongside the animal habitats.
The zoo was established in 1942 and was originally called Sher Bagh, a name that refers to the lions that once roamed the region. This naming choice showed how important these animals were to the area at that time.
The zoological museum shows preserved remains of a lion that was once hunted in the Punjab region, telling a story about animals that used to live here.
The zoo is open daily, and visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring water since you explore the grounds on foot. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when animals are more active and the heat is less intense.
Three Bengal tigers live in modern moated enclosures that create a more natural setting than traditional cages. A large pond supports pelicans, cranes, and migrating water birds that can be seen year-round.
