Noor Mahal, Palace in Bahawalpur, Pakistan
Noor Mahal is a palace in Bahawalpur that stands on roughly 44,600 square feet and combines gothic forms with Mughal elements. The building contains long passageways, several courtyards, and numerous rooms across different levels.
Construction began in 1872 under Nawab Muhammad Bahawal Khan Abbasi IV and ended in 1875. The palace later served different purposes before the Pakistani army took it over.
The building mixes European window styles with Islamic decorations in its interior rooms. This combination appears most clearly in the reception halls, where plasterwork and ornamentation hold to both traditions.
The Pakistani army manages the palace and offers guided tours through the halls and courtyards. Visiting times are fixed, so checking ahead is advisable.
Above the central hall sits a glass wall that channels natural light into the court below. Special passageways enhance this light flow during daytime.
